Returned big game tags offer more hunting opportunity and are on sale Aug. 6
Idaho Fish and Game will sell primarily returned nonresident, general season big game tags starting at 10 a.m. MDT on Aug. 6. A list of available tags will be listed at 10 a.m. MDT on Aug. 5 on the Nonresident License and Tag webpage.
IDFG director issues conservation closure for sturgeon fishing on portion of CJ Strike Reservoir
To protect sturgeon amid abnormally low dissolved oxygen levels and high water temperatures in a portion of CJ Strike Reservoir, Idaho Fish and Game Director Jim Fredericks on July 31 signed a conservation closure order for sturgeon fishing in the portion of the Snake River arm between Canyon Creek and Rattlesnake Creek, effective August 2 until September 25, 2026.
Rainbow trout stocking schedule for August 2026 in the Magic Valley Region
Hatchery personnel from Fish and Game’s Magic Valley Region will be stocking approximately 20,580 10-12” catchable-sized rainbow trout in August. The stocking date and numbers of fish are approximate.
July 28, 2026 South Fork Salmon River Chinook Update
That's a wrap on another South Fork Salmon River Chinook season. After opening on June 18, the fishery remained open for 34 days, including six full weekends of fishing. We’re now within 35 fish of our harvest share, and the Director's Office has signed a closure order effective at the end of fishing hours on Wednesday, July 29.
Second big game controlled hunt drawing application period is Aug. 5-15
The application period for Idaho’s second big game controlled hunt drawing runs Aug. 5-15. Tags available in the second drawing include those for deer, elk, pronghorn, and black bear that were not applied for in the first drawing and those that were not claimed by the Aug. 1 deadline.
Statewide trout stocking highlights for August 2026
Many of Idaho’s lakes and ponds are soon going to be bolstered with Idaho Fish and Game stocking over 75,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout this August.
